Top Oryspa Rice Bran Products for Mommies, Daddies and Kids

When I was still pregnant with Kara, my OB advised me to be careful not just with what I eat and do, but also with the make-up and skin care products I'm using. Dra. Limson advised that it doesn’t have to be completely organic, but there are some ingredients pregnant women have to steer clear of because these can lead to potential birth defects during the early stages (see complete list here). Dra. Limson also mentioned to avoid the same list of chemicals while breastfeeding as some chemicals from skin-care products seep into the bloodstream and, in extreme cases, can cause allergies, and affect breast milk.

That made me give away make-up and skin care products worth thousands of pesos (after reading the ingredients list at the back... you'll be surprised how many make-up brands have all of these no-no's).

I started searching for alternatives, especially the moisturizers (when I was pregnant, my skin felt so dry no matter how much buko juice and water I had). Good thing, I met Miss Sherill Quintana as she was one of the co-speakers during the Negosyo Mo Workshop by Lead More Development Center.

Turns out, Miss Sherill Quintana is the CEO of Oryspa Solutiions, the #1 maker of rice bran based health & beauty products in the Philippines. Rice bran, a by-product of rice milling more popularly known as "darak," is an ingredient not often associated with beauty and personal care products. I was able to listen to how she discovered this. When she visited Japan years back, she came to know about Rice Bran Oil - a well-kept beauty secret of the Japanese and most East Asian countries (no wonder, their skin is so smooth!!!) And of course, Miss Sherill has found a way to infuse rice bran oil's vitamins, nutrients and antioxdiants into shampoos, soaps, mosquito repellents, lotions, body scrubs and pain relief products under the Oryspa brand.

She gave me a kit to try after our dinner at Italianni's with Dean Pax Lapid and Jorge Wieneke and I've been hooked ever since. I also went to the Franchise Asia Expo just last weekend to visit their booth and try their new products.

Here are my favorites:

Beauty Oil. This helps even out your skin tone and lightens dark spots and discoloration on underarms and eye area. It also softens the skin, minimize the appearance of stretch marks (start applying it as soon as you find out your pregnant so your skin doesn't lose its elasticity). I use this as my make-up remover at night and I definitely feel like it works for me! I used to get these rough, dry patches of skin on my face whenever I travel to places with extreme temperatures, but this cured me.

Meditation Balm. You will feel the immediate sense of calm and relief as it soothes aches and pains. Relieves migraine, headache and insect bites. Guaranteed safe, even for kids (just make sure they don't try to eat it). If you're like me who had extreme nausea while pregnant, just a whiff of this would help.

Citrepel Spray. My in-laws send us the Lafe's Baby Organic Insect Repellent from US (because it's kind of difficult to find one here and it's the only one that worked for us). Good thing, we found this. The combination of citronella and lemongrass extracts is potent against mosquitoes but gentle on your babies and kids. The spray has watery consistency (which is excellent because I'm not a fan of anything that feels greasy after application). I just spray this on Kara's clothes and re-apply every 4 hours while we're out and about. You can also spray it on linens at home.

Chili Oil. I get this one specifically for my husband because he always joins long distance runs (as in those 100 km runs... he is insanely strong!) This is great for back pains, joint pains, muscle cramps, stiff neck and insect bites. This doesn't have a strong scent by the way so you won't smell like someone poured Efficascent Oil or White Flower all over you.

All Oryspa products are FREE from the harmful substances that should be avoided while pregnant or breastfeeding. And of course, it actually works! As moms, we tend to forget to take care of ourselves after giving birth. This shouldn't be the case. We can't take good care of others if we don't take good care of ourselves. Start with a beauty regimen that is not just effective, but also safe.

By the way, for those who said I look 25, I don't know whether you're just pulling my leg or what but thank you and thanks to Oryspa Solutions - no wrinkles and no dry skin. Hooray!

P.S.

You can find Oryspa products at Kultura stores in case you want to try them. These are also distributed internationally so you can visit their website for more information. Plus, visit my Instagram page. I will be holding a giveaway contest as it is my goal to let more moms try these amazing goodies!
